To Young Women—Elder Jeffrey R. Holland

Posted on April 18, 2008

I was recently reminded of this wonderful and important talk by Elder Holland. He gave this talk in the October 2005 General Conference after his oldest grandchild became a teenager. Although it’s addressed to young women, it’s an important message for all women and girls as well as those that love them. It’s a classic address that should be read, heard or watched often. It’s about 15 minutes long.

To download, right click and save. You can then listen on your computer or put on your mp3 player.

Are you a Friend of Scouting?

Posted on March 20, 2008

Governor Rick Perry of Texas has written (along with Ross Perot) a new book entitled, On My Honor: Why the American Values of the Boy Scouts Are Worth Fighting for.  In this program, Governor Perry is interviewed by Dennis Prager about his book. I decided this would be a good program to share during the Friends of Scouting drive. The Boy Scouts are up against a lot of challenges and they need our support more than ever. Please listen to this 35 minute show whether you are involved in Boy Scouts or not.

To Confirm and Inform—Terry Ball

Posted on March 16, 2008

One of my favorite teachers is Terry B. Ball of the Department of Ancient Scripture at Brigham Young University. In this BYU devotional address given on March 11, Dr. Ball talks about the unique perspective of education that Latter-day Saints have and the opportunities it gives us.

Homeschooling in California

Posted on March 13, 2008

If you’re involved in homeschooling, you’ve probably heard about the recent court decision written by members of the 2nd District Court of Appeal. It has cause quite a stir among homeschoolers all over the country. In this program, Hugh Hewitt interviews lawyers and homeschool advocates including Home School Legal Defense attorney Michael Farris. In this interview Mr. Farris and the others are calm and factual. The beginning is a nice introduction to homeschooling for those that aren’t as familiar with it. The show is about 35 minutes but the last few minutes (8-10?) are on another topic (Hostess Twinkies).

Protect our Homes, Renew our Powers—Shirley Klein

Posted on February 27, 2008

This address was given as a devotional at BYU in 2005. It has become one of my all time favorite talks and one I have listened to over and over again. It is about the war we wage on a daily basis as our families are being attacked from all sides. It is uplifting, inspirational, and entertaining. Listen for the tactics Sister Klein suggests for combating the enemy and implement them into your lives. If you do, you will be rewarded. This address is about 30 minutes long.

Your Brain on Exercise—John J. Ratey, MD

Posted on February 14, 2008

OK, it’s February now. If you’re still looking for an excuse to start exercising, I’ve got one (or more) for you. John J. Ratey, MD was interviewed by Dennis Prager about his research on exercise. He said there are many benefits to exercising beyond getting in shape or losing weight. If you are interested in improving your brain, listen to this show and then start moving. It’s about 33 minutes long.

Mitt Romneys’ CPAC speech

Posted on February 8, 2008

Mitt Romney’s speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference on Thursday is destined to become a conservative classic. If you missed it, here’s your chance to hear it. This selection is from the Hugh Hewitt radio show (Hugh had a guest host that hour) so the address is, unfortunately, broken up by commercial breaks (the commercials are cut out, but the host stops Romney’s speech to announce the breaks). If you’re interested in hearing comments from listeners around the country, download Hour 1 (Romney Withdrawal) as well. It’s very touching if you have a soft spot for Governor Romney and could possibly create one if you don’t.

True to the Faith—President Gordon B. Hinckley

Posted on January 28, 2008

President Gordon B. Hinckley will be greatly missed. He has been beloved by young and old for his sense of humor and warm eloquent style.

I believe this address was President Hinckley’s last at Brigham Young University—Provo, given for Homecoming last September. It’s entitled, “True to the Faith” and is based on the 13th Article of Faith. It’s approximately 25 minutes long.
